The Chicago Public Health Department (CDPH) is hosting a community meeting about the Metal Management Midwest (“Sims”) recycling facility. Sims, located at 2500 S. Paulina Street in the Pilsen community, is looking to renew their current permit. Community members are essential to this process and your attendance will help the City understand concerns and address them through permitting actions. This meeting will follow the City’s public engagement Guidelines for waste and large recycling facilities, which also includes an ongoing public comment period. As a next step in this process, CDPH will host a community meeting at Benito Juarez High School on October 19 at 6:00pm. Please register in advance of this meeting here. Residents who live near the proposed facility will be prioritized for in-person attendance. A virtual option is also available. Interested students will help in facilitating or notetaking for the public hearing for the SIMs permitting process, to make sure as many voices of community members are heard. SIMS Metal Shredder is a metal shredding plant that is located in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood.
This hearing is part of the official Permit Application process that the city must complete.
The public hearing is scheduled for October 19, 2022 (6-8 pm) at the Benito Juarez Community Academy in Pilsen.
